Dave's 29th Birthday!

This year Dave celebrated his 29th birthday!  While he was at work, Dawson and I stayed busy preparing for the birthday festivities that evening.

Right before I was expecting Dave to be home, I received a phone call from him saying that he had been in a car accident.  Talk about bad luck- who gets into an accident on his birthday?  There were thankfully no injuries, but because of that it took police a long time to respond to the accident because they were "busy".  Also a positive was the fact that it was 100% the other driver's fault, so we didn't have to pay anything to repair the Corolla.

Needless to say, our birthday evening plans were thrown off a couple of hours.  When Dave finally returned home we went out to eat at what Dave considers the best place on Earth: IHOP.  I do my best to put on a smile and not make any negative comments every year when he chooses to eat there.  After dinner, we came and opened presents and ate Dave's requested treat of no-bake cookies (I married a simple man).

Besides what he bought himself, I surprised Dave with some new shirts since he recently gave a bunch away to the DI.  And yes, I made him take a picture with each one :)

Dave's birthday didn't go at all like planned, but we tried to make the most of it and ended up having a fun evening as a family.  Happy Birthday Dave!

Our New Backyard

Since we moved into our home over two years ago, Dave has had the pleasure of dealing with a backyard full of weeds that grow several feet high.  Every so often Dave would have to weed-wack the entire backyard wearing full body protective covering so as not to get nailed by the flying weed debris.

Well, we finally were able to get some landscaping back there the first week of July.  It will be so nice for Dawson to have a great backyard to play in next summer when he can run around!

First came the weed removal.

Then came the trenching.

Next, the pipes for the sprinklers.

Then, everything got covered in a beautiful layer of top soil.

We also got curbing put in around the house, in the corners, and in the front yard as well.

Then a huge load of sod was dropped off at our hose ready for laying.

The job got done quick with the help of all our wonderful neighbors.

Hooray for sod and sprinklers!

Our sod is now thriving grass and we couldn't be happier with the results!

Summer Visitors

Well, Summer has begun and now almost ended and I have not blogged even one time.  I guess I've just been having too much fun living life that I haven't made the time to write about life.  The next several entries will take you through our life from the end of May to the end of July.

Another school year came to an end and I finished my last year of teaching first grade.  I made the decision to switch grade levels this coming school year and was offered a fifth grade teaching position at my school.  I was also asked to be a part of our school's mentor program this year which is something I have always wanted to do.  I am thrilled for the upcoming school year and ready to take on a new year filled new people, new students, and new experiences.  These happenings sent me in to the Summer with happiness and excitement!

Dave's mom and Keith came to visit us over Memorial Day weekend.  It was their first time meeting Dawson and they had a great time getting to know him.  Some of the highlights of their visit was eating at Tucanos and spending a day in Park City.

Shortly after Julie and Keith left, my parents and brothers came for a visit.  We had a good time hanging out with everyone.

Our final Summer visitors came just this past weekend.  Dave's Grandma Mary and Aunt Jan came from Oregon to visit and meet our sweet little man.  We had a relaxing weekend with them eating lots of good food and spending time together.

We've had fun hosting our Summer visitors.  We're grateful for all of our family who travels so far to come see us and spend time with us.
